Most Expensive Floors in the World

Individuals can experience sticker shock when they explore the costs of some flooring options. However, there are some floors that are beyond pricy and makes the cost of hardwood flooring seem cheap in comparison. A price of $12 to $15 per square foot is considered expensive, but not when compared with some types of wood.

Hardwood

Ziricote wood from Mexico and Central America is highly desirable for creating electric guitars. It’s medium to dark brown in color, often with a green or purple hue. It retails for $70 per pound. Zebra wood will set individuals back about $22 per square foot. It’s a threatened species from Africa that’s resistant to termites. Holly wood is the whitest of all woods, used for piano keys, and sells for $35 per board foot.

Madagascar ebony costs $150 per square foot. Native to India, Sri Lanka and Southeast Asia, the wood has aporcelain brown and black coloration with streaks of gold and orange. Cocobolo wood from Panama is priced at $9 per pound and comes in colors of red, yellow, orange, purple and reddish-brown. Only the heartwood is used, it has a vaguely floral scent, and is toxic to work with but safe after it’s been processed. It’s an endangered species.

Tile

Rosa aurora marble is the most common type of marble excavated from the Estremoz region of Portugal. It’s typically a cream color, highlighted by pink and peach veins. There’s also a delicate pink color that has cloudy veins of darker pink. It’s considered one of the most visually aesthetic marble for flooring and is also popular for creating sculptures. It costs $58 per square foot.

However, the title of most expensive flooring in the world goes to Lux Touch tile. The handcrafted black marble tiles are encrusted with diamonds, abalone shell, mother-of-pearl, and black onyx. The cost – $1,000,000 per square foot. The tiles contain 1,000 pieces of diamonds, 400 pieces of abalone shells, 2,400 piece of mother-of-pearl, and 500 pieces of black onyx.
