How to Choose Commercial Carpeting

There are multiple advantages for businesses that install commercial carpeting. One of the biggest benefits is that it acts as a sound barrier to reduce noise. It’s also an insulator that helps floors retain heat. Both of those attributes have been shown to increase employee productivity, particularly in office settings.

Commercial carpeting is heavier than what’s used in homes. It’s a good solution for hotels, businesses with a lobby, and high-end retail establishments. It creates an aesthetically pleasing environment for customers and employees. The floor covering is also cost-effective.

Getting New Carpets Installed: What You Need to KnowMaterial

Nylon carpet is the most commonly utilized for commercial settings due to its durability. The fibers are able to withstand high-traffic areas without crushing or matting and the material is stain-resistant. Carpet tiles are an excellent choice. If a single tile becomes worn or soiled, it can easily be replaced without the need to remove the entire carpet installation.

Pile

This is a measure of how much yarn was used in the carpet’s manufacturing. Pile is also known as face weight and can range from 16 to 40 ounces of yard per square foot.

Density

Different than face weight, density refers to how carpeting is woven – with long threads or short and loosely or tightly. Carpeting that’s tightly woven is more durable.

Backing

Carpeting has different types of backing. Commercial offerings often have plastic backing with a latex coating. There are also carpeting options that have a moisture barrier.

Padding

Depending on the environment, padding may or may not be desirable. It can be simply glued to the floor and padding isn’t mandatory. Padding provides an extra layer of insulation and reduces echoing, but the decision to use padding will have to be evaluated by the business owner.

Color and Style

With a wide range of colors, styles, designs and textures, there’s carpeting to accommodate any business. Color choice will affect the perception of the space and contribute to creating a welcoming atmosphere. Pile shading is also a consideration, referring to the lines left from vacuuming.
