It will reflect more light in the room and the darker floor will make the room feel more expansive.
Laying flooring in a diagonal pattern creates an optical illusion of space as the widest part of the design will be facing anyone that enters the room. It works with all types of flooring from hardwoods to carpeting.
Whether you’re using tiles, planks, or patterned carpeting, large and wide is always better for a small room. Large tiles, wide planks, and carpeting squares with large patterns create a sense of greater spaciousness – another optical illusion. When using carpeting in a small room, always select tiles over wall-to-wall carpeting.

No matter how carefully you’ve decorated, painted, and selected colors, a cluttered floor will negate all your work. Keep organization tight to highlight floor space.
