The level of protection will depend on the type of epoxy coating that’s chosen. There are three common types. One is water-based, fairly thin, and deemed a green solution. Epoxy coatings shouldn’t be confused with garage floor painting. Epoxy is a thermosetting resin that’s harder than paint, bonds to the concrete surface, and hardens into a protective layer that’s able to withstand high traffic areas and the weight of heavy vehicles.

Individuals may also want to consider a polyaspartic garage floor covering, as it provides the same benefits as epoxy, is resistant to UV light, and cures quicker and at lower temperatures. It’s a relatively new advancement and offers an alternative to epoxy.
