Setting up a nursery for your new little bundle of joy is an exciting undertaking. One of the most common questions when decorating the nursery concerns flooring. Carpeting is a popular option for a variety of reasons, but there’s more to consider than just the color.

Benefits

Carpeting is warm underfoot and makes a nursery feel cozy. It also provides a soft surface for children to play on, learn to crawl, and cushions the inevitable falls when children begin learning to walk. It’s a budget-friendly solution and aids in buffering noise.

Drawbacks

The downside is that carpeting can trap allergens, dust and mold. It will need to be vacuumed more often – preferably every day – to keep it free of those elements. Even with anti-stain treatments, carpeting is prone to staining.

Wool

Carpeting made of wool is an excellent choice if allergies or asthma are a concern. Wool is an all-natural fiber that’s resistant to liquids, dirt and staining since it’s harder for liquids to penetrate below the surface and into the fibers. It’s extremely durable, non-allergenic, and doesn’t promote the growth of bacteria. However, it can be snagged by pet claws if you have dogs or cats.

Plush

Choosing plush carpeting ensures your child will have an extra soft surface upon which to play and learn to crawl. It has a smooth texture, the pile can range in height from ½ to ¾ of an inch, and people often compare it to the look and feel of a freshly cut lawn. As a low-pile carpet, it won’t tend to collect and hide pet hair.

Berber

It’s a style of looped carpeting that results in a multi-color effect that works exceptionally well at hiding dirt and stains. The pile is short, making it easier to vacuum and clean than other types. It’s also highly durable and can last for many years. That’s good for your family, but if pets are involved, their claws can get caught and snag it.
