Cork

It has antimicrobial properties so it’s less likely to promote mold or bacterial growth, but spills should be cleaned up promptly. It resembles the beauty of hardwood and absorbs sound. Cork resists scratches, but it’s not scratchproof. Choosing a lighter shade will minimize the appearance of scratches and it’s a warmer surface than tile or stone.

Laminate

The flooring is highly affordable and resistant to liquid, staining and scratching. Cleaning and maintenance are a breeze. It’s warmer than tile and stone and offers a softer surface for children to play.

Tile and Stone

The materials are similar, very easy to clean, and they’re resistant to water, stains and scratching. The materials withstand high foot traffic and it can emulate the look of wood. The downside is that the flooring is cold, hard, and uncomfortable – especially for small children and pets.

Vinyl

Today’s luxury vinyl is available in tiles or planks and can imitate the look of stone, tile or wood. Extremely durable, it’s offered in a myriad of colors and patterns. Vinyl is resistant to scratches and spills and some types are also waterproof. The material is easy to clean, maintain, and comfortable for kids and pets, but is less desirable when it comes to resale value.
